Understanding Health Insurance
These resources are for anyone shopping (or helping someone shop) for health coverage within the health insurance marketplaces created through the Affordable Care Act (also known as the ACA or Obamacare).
For 2023 coverage, the open enrollment period starts on November 1, 2022 and ends on January 15, 2023, for healthcare.gov and in most state-run marketplaces, and later in a few states. Eligible people may also enroll in Medicaid at any point during the year and in marketplace coverage if they qualify for one of several special enrollment opportunities.

Health Insurance Marketplace Calculator
The Health Insurance Marketplace Calculator uses 2023 premium data and the subsidy increases for 2023 in the Inflation Reduction Act to provide estimates of health insurance premiums and subsidies for people purchasing insurance on their own in health insurance exchanges (or “Marketplaces”). With this calculator, you can enter your income, age, and family size to estimate your eligibility for subsidies and how much you could spend on health insurance.
